Away from the crowds: destination alternatives not to miss.

While we’ll never turn down sipping Aperol spritzes on the Amalfi Coast or lounging on Capri's sun-drenched beaches, it's time to seek out spaces away from the crowds. So —- we're setting our sights on alternatives that offer all the glamour without the crowds (or price tags!). We've all seen the usual suspects on social media — but it's time to explore some hidden gems that are just as amazing as their A-list counterparts.

1) Marbella: Sun-Soaked Chic

Trade Amalfi's crowded cliffs for Marbella. This Spanish stunner has everything you crave: golden beaches, a charming Old Town, and a dash of buzz at a bevy of local beach clubs.

I’ve personally been eager to experience the legendary Marbella Club. This storied resort, founded by Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe in 1954, epitomizes laid-back luxury. I have been long-adoring its lush gardens and beachfront location — it might be on my list for summer 2025!

La Bodega Wine Tavern is located at the Marbella Club Hotel.

2) Ischia: The Island That Time (Almost) Forgot

While everyone's elbowing for space on Capri, those in the know are slipping away to Ischia. This island is enveloped in volcanic beauty, surrounded by the Bay of Naples, and is all about laid-back luxury.

The Mezzatorre Hotel & Thermal Spa has been a staple for my clients this summer. It's perched on a cliff, with awe-inspiring views and filled with playful interiors from Pellicano Hotel Group. On island, your days are mostly spent hopping between hidden beaches — or dining at a local favorite like Giardino Eden. This island is a dream for those who prefer to escape the crowds of Positano without giving up the cliffside views.

3) Edinburgh: A Fairytale City with an Edge

If London's hotel pricing is too painful to bear, try Edinburgh. This Scottish gem has a vibe that's part medieval, part cutting-edge cool.

Wander the Royal Mile, popping into whisky bars and quirky shops. Or lace up your boots for a hike up Arthur's Seat, which is ideal for viewing the city from above. When it comes to hotels, I am a fan of Gleneagles Townhouse. This urban outpost of the iconic Gleneagles resort brings a touch of Highland glamour-meets-cool to the heart of Edinburgh.

4) Vienna: Where Classic Meets Cool

With the Olympics invading Paris, try Vienna. Admittedly, this city was never on my radar, but I argue that it’s one of the most underrated destinations in Europe. The streets are clean; you’ll find great shopping (and antiques) plus miles of enchanting museums.

I love the old-world glamour of Hotel Sacher. This iconic property is not only home to the famous Sachertorte cake but also offers a perfect blend of historic charm and modern luxury — it also happens to be in one of the best locations in the city.

5) Mexico City: A Feast for Your Senses

Cabo is nice if you want to park on a beach, but Mexico City might offer more than you expect.

A recent visit made me realize what a cool place this is to visit. I’d recommend wandering the hip Roma neighborhood, grabbing pastries at Rosetta Bakery, and soaking in the art scene — from Frida's Blue House to the mind-bending Museo Soumaya, the city is an art lover's dream.

The ultra-chic Casa Polanco is currently on my radar. This intimate boutique hotel in the upscale Polanco neighborhood offers a perfect blend of Mexican hospitality and contemporary design.

6) Croatia: The Adriatic's Best-Kept Secret

The prices are eye-popping on the Amalfi Coast — but I would recommend trying Croatia instead. Start your trip in Dubrovnik and finish it off with over a thousand islands to choose from. You're bound to find your perfect slice of paradise.
For a truly one-of-a-kind experience, check out Mamula Island. This former 19th-century fortress has been transformed into a luxurious hotel, offering a perfect blend of history and modern comfort.

7) Seville: Andalusia's countryside gem

If Tuscany is out of the question, why not Seville? This Andalusian beauty offers an experience similar to Tuscany — from rows of orange blossoms to sipping sangria late into the evening, plus landmarks like the jaw-dropping Alcázar palace, you’ll be in awe of how much there is to experience in Spain’s countryside (and your wallet will thank you!).

The only downside is that hotel options are limited, but the Hotel Alfonso XIII is perfectly suited for short stays in Seville before heading onwards. This iconic property, commissioned by the King of Spain to host international dignitaries during the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, still exudes an air of grandeur and sophistication.
