Bahamas House • Harbour Island, Bahamas

If your days are like mine, they might feel like they are running together right now. I find myself cycling through a steady mix of highs, and, well, not-so-highs. Regarding the highs, it appears that the rest of the world has found theirs in bread baking—sourdough, banana bread, focaccia, and more. Sadly, I cannot say the same for myself. I might join you guys one day, but for now I’ve got to admit my daily highs are coming from somewhere else: happy hour. Please don’t pass judgement for the weekday drinking but the margaritas, rosé, Old Fashioned’s and martinis have been transporting me elsewhere, and this week my rum cocktail is taking me to the Caribbean. What I would do to spend quarantine in the Caribbean!

Harbour Island is somewhat of a hidden gem. It’s like stress evaporates there. Far from modern infinity pool vibes and stuffy to do’s, the island’s barefoot luxury and happy-go-lucky atmosphere is a refreshing break from everyday life. That casual, rubbing-shoulders-with-locals-in-a-bar vibe is particularly why I love The Bahamas House, a private lodge by Eleven Experience. Instead of a hotel or resort, it feels like you are jetting off to your cool friend’s stylish island retreat (who wouldn’t love to be doing that right now?). Eleven Experience is known for their effortless way to blend personalized service with accommodations could be best described as adult playgrounds. Think personalized luxuries like pre-arrival experience managers, paired with 35-foot tiki bars that await when you arrive on property.

Bahamas House lives like a private home but is outfitted with a full staff. The best of both worlds. The staff takes care of you like your mom is there (without the judging eyes when you’ve been overserved) and includes breakfast daily, island snacks and fresh cocktails galore at said tiki bar—all at no extra charge. The House itself is small, holding a maximum of 22 guests across 11 rooms. Aren’t we all trying to stay away from the crowds these days anyway?

The whole place is island chic at its best, down to every detail. So detailed that you’ll be catching yourself photographing the bathrooms, that’s how adorable it is.

There is no place on Harbour Island that I would rather wine, dine and soak up the sun. The only thing you need to do is make your reservation before it’s booked for the season!
